Common questions
- Where does my diary live?
- On your phone, and nowhere else. Flarely has no account, no server and no sync — there is no network code in the app for your diary at all. Nothing you write is ever sent anywhere, so there is no copy for anyone to read, lose, or be asked to hand over. That is a decision rather than a missing feature: a symptom diary is the last thing that belongs in somebody else’s database.
- Then what happens if I lose my phone?
- Your phone’s own backup is the only thing that carries the diary to a new device. If you restore a new phone from an iCloud or computer backup, your diary comes with it. If you do not use backups, it does not — so if the diary matters to you, use Export everything in Settings now and then. It is free, forever, and writes the whole thing to a file you keep.
- Can I stop other people reading it?
- Yes. Lock the diary is in Settings and is off until you turn it on. With it on, Flarely asks for Face ID or your passcode before it opens, and closes again whenever you leave the app — including in the app switcher, so the diary is not readable from a thumbnail. Your face and your passcode are checked by the phone; Flarely only ever learns whether the phone said yes.
- Does it work without signal?
- Completely. The whole symptom list ships inside the app, so the picker is full on a plane, in a basement, or in a waiting room with no bars. There is nothing to load and nothing to wait for.
- What does the “what moved together” screen actually do?
- It looks for what rose and fell together in your own entries — for example that your joint pain eased on the nights you slept longer. It is rank correlation over your days and nothing else, it needs at least fourteen days where both things were logged before it will say anything at all, and it says “moved with”, never “caused”. Two things moving together is a question worth taking to your doctor, not an answer.
- Is there a subscription?
- Logging your symptoms, the history, exporting your data and the doctor’s report are free forever. Premium adds the pattern-finding and unlimited trackers, monthly or yearly, with seven days free and no card asked for to start. Billing is handled by Apple; you can cancel in Settings on your phone at any time, and cancelling keeps Premium until the period you paid for ends.
- Which languages is it in?
- Six: English, German, Dutch, Swedish, Danish and Norwegian. The symptom and condition names are translated too, not just the buttons — a German reader sees Kopfschmerzen, with the clinical term kept alongside it for their doctor.
- Where do the medical terms come from?
- Symptom and condition names come from the Human Phenotype Ontology (release 2026-09-01) and medicine names from RxNorm, published by the US National Library of Medicine. Every entry keeps the clinical name and the release it came from, and no term’s meaning is altered — Flarely adds a plain-language label for the picker and leaves the original beside it.
- How do I delete everything?
- Delete the app. Because the diary lives only on your phone, removing Flarely removes every day you logged, with no copy left behind anywhere. Export first if you want to keep it.
This is a diary, not a doctor
Flarely records what you tell it and shows it back. It does not
diagnose, it does not treat, it does not give medical advice, and it
does not measure anything with your phone’s sensors. Severity is your
own 0–10 rating of your own day.
Nothing in the app should be used to decide whether to start, stop or
change a treatment. Take it to the person who is treating you — that is
what the doctor’s report is for.
Privacy
No analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no account. Your diary
never leaves your phone, so there is nothing for us to collect: we do
not receive your symptoms, your notes or your name.
The one thing that does leave the phone is a purchase. Subscriptions
go through Apple and RevenueCat, which see that a subscription exists
and an anonymous identifier for it. They never see any part of the
diary.
The full policy, covering every app here, is on the
privacy page.
