Common questions
- Where are the stories written?
- A text-generation service writes it, and the story comes back to your phone. Four things are sent: your child’s first name, the pet or toy you named, the theme you picked from the list, and the language. Nothing else. On an iPhone with Apple Intelligence the story can be written on the device with no network at all, and on every phone there is a set of stories written by hand and compiled into the app, so it keeps working in Airplane Mode either way.
- Where do the pictures come from?
- They are drawn by an image service, one per page, and they cost you nothing on top of the subscription. A picture is asked for by the scene alone: a place, a time of evening, a mood and the animal your child chose. Your child’s name is never part of an image request. A page whose picture has not arrived is still a page: the story reads without it.
- Is there a subscription?
- Three stories are free. After that it is a subscription, monthly or yearly, and you can cancel it in Settings on your phone at any time. Nothing is charged without the App Store asking you first.
- Do you need an account?
- No. The app writes and reads stories with no account at all, and that is how it starts. An account is there for one thing: if you make one, the stories are kept for you, so a new phone signs in and the shelf your child knows is there. You can delete the account, and everything kept for it, from inside the app.
- Which iPhones does it work on?
- The on-device writer needs Apple Intelligence, which means an iPhone 15 Pro or an iPhone 16 or later, running iOS 26 or newer. On other phones Nightleaf still writes stories, using a set of hand-written story shapes that ship inside the app.
- Which languages does it write in?
- Fourteen: English, Turkish, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, Japanese, Korean and Chinese. You pick the language of the story separately from the language of the app, so a Turkish parent can ask for an English story.
- The voice sounds flat. Can it be better?
- Yes, in two ways. Your phone can download warmer system voices, under Settings, Accessibility, Spoken Content, Voices, and Nightleaf will pick the best one it finds. Nightleaf also offers its own voice for most languages, about 64 MB, downloaded only if you ask for it. Neither costs anything.
- Why can I not type what the story should be about?
- You choose from a fixed list instead. That is deliberate. It is the strongest way to keep a children's story inside the safety limits of the model, and it is the only way we can test every possible request before the app ships.
- Does my child's name go anywhere?
- It goes to the writer that composes the story, and, if you have made an account, it is part of the story kept for you. It is never included in a request for a picture. The name is also stored on your phone so the next evening is quicker, and deleting the app deletes that copy.
- What about the photograph of my child?
- If you add one it is copied into the app’s own storage and stays there. It is not uploaded, not attached to an account, not sent with a story and not part of a picture request. It is the little face on the shelf, and nothing else. Removing it in the app deletes it.
- Can I read the story before my child hears it?
- Yes. The story appears on screen as it is written, and you decide when it is read aloud.

No analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no account unless you

what an account keeps is your email address and the stories themselves.
A photograph of your child never leaves the phone.
